Pilimmaksarniq: Engaging Inuit Men and Boys in Reducing Violence Against Women and Girls
The purpose of the Women’s Program is to advance equality for women in Canada by working to address or remove systemic barriers impeding women’s progress and advancement. The WP supports the Government of Canada’s goal of advancing gender equality in Canada. It is consistent with Government of Canada priorities related to economic prosperity, and supports Canada’s international commitments related to gender equality. This 48-month project will engage men and boys as agents of change to reduce violence against women and girls across all four regions of Inuit Nunangat, referring to Inuit homeland consisting of Inuvialuit (NWT), Nunatsiavut (Labrador), Nunavik (Quebec), and Nunavut. Through the project, Pauktuutit will partner with women’s organizations, men’s groups, frontline service providers, such as shelters and other stakeholders, to develop and implement culturally-appropriate targeted interventions. They will work directly with men’s groups on how to take a leadership role against violence, and a national role-model campaign will also be developed to encourage men, women and youth to speak and act against violence. Additional funds will help mitigate the impact of unforeseen changes to the project activities as a result COVID-19 pandemic.
